He Who Makes A Beast Out Of Himself Gets Rid Of The Pain Of Being A Fan

lol

This is a post about being a sports fan, so hopefully it will fun and really dumb both, because thats how I feel about being a sports fan. Lol look at those Timber Army people hehe.

Being a fan is fun.  The first thing that I ever loved was sports, as a kid, the majority of my free time was spent thinking about it or playing it in some capacity.  I would role play being on the Sonics, or US team in World Cup, it was important that I was playing for my favorite team.  Ok, that is the extent in which I will discuss my childhood in this post, I promise. So, being a fan is fun. It's the most fun when your team wins.  Sometimes it's a win over a tough opponent and the satisfaction of seeing your record as being the best or one of the best.  Other times it's winning when you shouldn't, upsetting the team that thinks they are so good that all they had to do was show up to win.  BUT IT'S NOT FUN TO LOSE.

I hope you are still reading this far, I am having major difficulties illustrating the point that I want to.

Identifying with a team that loses causes major problems for people.  Normally rational people act stupid, and those of us who are prone to irrational behavior will not have a logical thought for days.
You will rarely hear a fan explain a loss as "we aren't as good as the other team."  When you do hear this it is normally not a moment of clarity, but rather a masochistic episode that the person is having.  Instead what you get is one of these:

1. The other team has an unfair advantage of some sort/ cheats.

2. The referee sucked/ was paid off/ is hella gay.

3. Our player/players just don't care/ have no heart.

Sure, these things can and have happened, these have been significant factors in determining sporting outcomes.  Rarely.

  1. Haha I hope you keep posting every day. Nice title. Here's my #4 thing I say (when watching Seahawks):

Giacomini is a brutus blockhead and needs to control his primal impulses.

  2. The general rule of thumb for my proposed #4 is to find one scapegoat on the team and blame everything on him. "We lost because Giacomini couldn't control his urges and commited that personal foul. We'd have probably scored a touchdown on that drive had he not done that."

  3. That could be an extension of number 3. Giacomini has had an issue in a couple games of losing his temper and committing personal fouls that have cost the team in important situations (in close games nonetheless). He is also a pretty decent player and it should be up to the coaching staff and leaders on offense to ensure that he takes his medicine or something. THAT SAID WE WOULD BE 5-0 WITHOUT HIM
